In many ways, the Troy Bilt Thoroughbred riding mower is very similar to the Troy Bilt Horse XP in that both have the same size mower deck and engines with the same power output. However, neither is as powerful as the Troy Bilt Big Red garden tractor mower. The Thoroughbred mower uses a Kohler Courage engine that gives it 22 horsepower. The engine is started with a key and is fed with gasoline from a tank that has a maximum capacity of up to 9. 5 liters (2. 5 US gallons). The engine transfers power to the Thoroughbred’s wheels through a hydrostatic transmission controlled by a foot pedal.
The 22 hp drives the mower deck on the Troy Bilt Thoroughbred. This mower deck has a 46-inch cutting width, although due to the discharge flap located on the side of the mower its overall width is about 10 inches larger than this. The mower deck has 4 small anti-fouling wheels to ensure the mower deck does not “catch” in the grass while mowing. The mower deck has 6 different cutting heights so you can always find a suitable height.
To collect grass clippings on the Troy Bilt Thoroughbred, you can optionally attach a rear bagger to collect them. This is the best option if you want to leave your lawn looking really clean. However, there are also other options you can use like a FastAttach mulching kit that will turn clippings into a fast-breaking mulch. Alternatively, if you don’t have the time, you can dump the grass clippings over the side of the mower deck. The total weight of the Thoroughbred mower is 292. 6 kg.
