John Deere 245

Review

The John Deere 245 mower is a fairly old model from the 1990s. It’s not as well known as the John Deere 140 or John Deere 318, but it’s still another quality machine from JD. It was only on the production line for a period of 1 year, from 1993 to 1994, when its production ended. All production took place at JD’s Wisconsin assembly plant. A 14hp Kawasaki FC420V petrol engine powers the JD 245. This gives it 14hp to drive the wheels forward and spin the blade on the mower deck. Power from the engine is transferred to the wheels via a hydrostatic transmission, giving the John Deere mower unlimited forward and reverse speeds.

Since the engine that powers the John Deere 245 is quite small, it unfortunately does not come with an operator’s cab to protect the driver from the elements. But why would people need a cabin if they only cut grass on dry summer days? It’s the fact that the JD 245 can be used for much more than mowing the lawn in the summer. You can also add a lot of accessories to it and use it in other jobs. Obviously there is a bagger to collect the grass clippings at the rear of the machine. But there are also other accessories.

You can use a snowplow to clear the driveway. There is also a front blade attachment to clear any kind of debris or dirt. So you’ll be glad to know that investing in a John Deere 245 mower will put it to more uses than just cutting grass. Remember that if you buy a JD 245 it is imperative that you first thoroughly inspect it to make sure there are no mechanical issues with it as it is a fairly old machine.
