John Deere 8630

Review

The John Deere 8630 tractor is a larger and more powerful model than its little brother, the John Deere 8430. This tractor is specifically designed to pull very large loads. The engine that powers it is a 6-cylinder diesel built by JD. The engine has a liquid cooling system that requires 41. 6 liters of water to fill completely. The JD 8630 engine uses a dry type air filter to prevent dust and particles from entering the engine through the air intake. The engine runs with a compression ratio of 15. 4 to 1. The total power output of this engine is a whopping 275bhp (especially high considering the tractor hasn’t been built since 1978!).

The John Deere 8630 uses a Quad-Range transmission to transfer this enormous power from the engine to the wheels. The Quad Range is a part power gearbox providing the JD 8630 with 16 forward speeds and 4 reverse speeds. The maximum speed of the tractor is 32. 7 km/h forward and in reverse it can reach 17. 9 km/h. Unlike many tractors, the JD 8630 is not built on a 4X4 MFWD 4WD or 4X2 2WD chassis. Instead, it’s built on a 4X4 4WD articulated chassis and uses hydraulic wet disc brakes to control its speed.

The wheels on the John Deere 8630 are just huge. Both the front and rear wheels are the same size, each measuring 18. 4-34 (18. 4 inches wide, 34-inch rim diameter). You will regularly see this tractor with dual wheels attached. With such a big engine and big wheels, you would be absolutely correct in assuming that this tractor weighs a lot. Its operating weight is 11, 113 kg (24, 500 lbs), but its maximum safe ballast weight is 12, 011 kg (26, 480 lbs). If you have ever used this tractor, please leave a comment below with your thoughts on it.
