John Deere 850

Review

The John Deere 850 Compact Utility Tractor is part of the same series of compact utility tractors that includes the John Deere 650 and John Deere 750 tractors, as well as the smaller John Deere 950 tractor. The JD 850 had a production run of 12 years from 1978 to 1989, which compared to today’s JD tractors is an incredibly long time. This compact utility tractor could be used as a large yard mower when a 72-inch-wide mower deck is mounted in the middle. Under the hood, you will find a diesel engine that is provided by Yanmar. This engine is liquid cooled with a cooling system that can hold up to 5. 7 liters of water. The engine is a 3-cylinder model that fires at a compression ratio of 21. 2:1. The total displacement of this atmospheric engine is 1. 3 liters. Its power is 22 CV (less than some JD mower tractors).

The John Deere 850 is built on a choice of 4X2 2WD or 4X4 MFWD 4WD chassis. The 8-speed forward (2 reverse) gearbox transfers power from the engine to the wheels. The rear wheels each measure 11. 2-24 (11. 2 inches wide, 24 inches rim diameter), while the front wheels that drive the tractor each measure 5-15 (5 inches wide, 15 inchesof rim diameter). The total weight of the JD 850 is 1088 kg. It has a 1. 62 m (64 in) wheelbase.

You can still find the JD 850 on jobsites, large estates and small farms today, as it is compatible with a range of loaders (like the John Deere 80) and backhoe loaders (like the John Deere 8A). If you have ever used this compact utility tractor (even many years ago), please leave a comment of your experiences below to give others an idea of what to expect from it.
