The engine that powers it is a Yanmar 4TNE84. It is a 4-cylinder engine that is kept cool by a liquid cooling system. The engine has 4 cylinders and is diesel. The total displacement of the engine is 2 liters. It shoots at a compression ratio of 18:1. The engine is started by a 12-volt battery that supplies 690 cold cranking amps. The second option is a partially synchronized transmission that provides the JD 4610 with 9 forward and 3 reverse speeds. The latest transmission option is a PowrReverser transmission that provides the tractor with 12 speeds in both forward and reverse.
The John Deere 4610 can accommodate a wide range of implements thanks to a center PTO that can handle a mowing deck up to 72 inches wide, as well as a rear PTO that drives a wide range of implements, from backhoes to plows.
