John Deere 4600

Review

The John Deere 4600 Compact Utility Tractor is part of the large JD 4000 series that was produced in the late 1990s and early 2000s. The engine that propels it is a Yanmar 4TNE84. This is a diesel engine that uses direct injection, which makes starting much easier. It is a 4 cylinder engine that is started by a 12 volt battery. This battery provides the engine with 650 cold cranking amps. When the engine is running, the battery is recharged via a 40-amp alternator. The JD 4600’s engine is liquid-cooled and uses a dry-type air filter to prevent dust and other small particles from entering the combustion chambers. The Yanmar engine runs at 2, 600 rpm. The output power is 43 hp.

In total there are 4 different gearboxes that you could have chosen for the John Deere 4600 when you bought it new. The simplest option is the 3-range hydrostatic transmission (Hi, Medium, Lo), which gives the compact utility tractor a top speed of 27. 8 km/h (17. 3 mph). However, if you want to control the gears, you can select the PowrReverser Creeper transmission, which gives the JD 4600 24 forward and reverse gears. If that’s too many gears for you, you can choose the regular PowrReverser transmission, which gives the tractor 12 forward and reverse gears via a partially synchronized gear change. The last option is a saddle pad gearbox that uses a dry clutch and gives you 9 forward speeds and 3 reverse speeds.

The total weight of the John Deere 4600 is 1, 564 kg (3, 450 pounds), while its length is 3. 42 m (135 inches). The standard model JD 4600 comes with a 4X2 2WD chassis, but you have the option to purchase it with a 4X4 MFWD 4WD chassis. The speed of this tractor is controlled by wet disc brakes.
