The John Deere 214 is a well known mower from the John Deere boys that enjoyed a 10+ year production run from 1975 to 1987. It was part of a family of JD mowers produced at the time, which included the John Deere 216 andthe John Deere 212. The 214 is powered by a Kohler K321AQS 512cc, 1-cylinder, 0. 5-litre displacement engine. This produced 14 CV of power that was transferred in 4 forward gears and 1 in reverse.
The great thing about the JD 214 is that you have a choice of mower decks that you could use on it. If you were mostly cutting short, light grass, you can use the smaller 48″ mower deck. While if you are going to be dealing with long or heavy, wet grass that needs more power to be cut, you can attach a 38″ deck mower. It also has a number of attachments you can take, from smaller utility carts tolawn scarifiers for snow blowers/throwers and snow blades/snow throwers.
The John Deere 214 was a fairly compact mower compared to the large ones you see today. It weighs only 299 kg (660 pounds), is 1. 71 m (67. 5 inches) long and has an overall width, when taking its wheelbase into account, of 1. 16 m (46 inches). The JD 214 was very well received by consumers as it featured a 12V alternator and battery which meant that instead of starting with a pull cord like almost all other tractors of the time, it was enough to turna key.
In general, the John Deere 214 is highly appreciated by gardeners with medium and large gardens for its versatility and its different sizes of mower deck. Aside from some issues people have had in the past with the clutch, this is a very robust and reliable garden tractor mower.
