John Deere 1520

Review

The John Deere 1520 tractor had a production run that lasted 5 years, from 1968 to 1972, when it was replaced by the John Deere 1530 tractor. The JD 1520 came with a choice of 2 different engines to power it. The first option is a gasoline engine. It is an atmospheric engine that uses a liquid cooling system to prevent overheating and works with a compression ratio of 8 to 1. This gasoline engine has a total displacement of 2. 7 liters. The other option is a 3-cylinder diesel engine that is also atmospheric and has a displacement of 2. 7 liters. This engine runs on a compression ratio of 16. 7 to 1 and also uses a liquid cooling system that requires 11. 4 liters of water to fill it completely. The engine uses a dry type air filter to prevent dust and particles from entering the engine. Both engine options for the JD 1520 are manufactured by JD itself.

There is a choice of 2 different gearboxes for the John Deere 1520. The first is a part power shift transmission system that has 16 forward speeds and 8 reverse speeds. The other is a collar shift system with fewer gears, 8 for forwards and 4 for reverse.

The fuel tank of the John Deere 1520 tractor has a capacity of 73. 8 liters. The hydraulic system of the JD 1520 is closed and has a flow rate of 39. 7 liters per minute. The total capacity of the hydraulic system is 37. 9 liters. This hydraulic system allows the rear 3-point hitch to have a maximum safe lift capacity of 1, 043 kg. The maximum ballast weight of this tractor is 3161 kg. If you’ve ever used this tractor, you can contribute to Tractor Review by commenting on your experiences with it below.
